This game represents life, death, good, evil, time and place from each viewer’s perspective. The place is a squared space that consists of 24 black and white triangles representing the 24 hours of the day and are divided into 12 black that embody the night and 12 white the day. In the same way, the 30 game chips of the game stand for the 30 days of the month and the six faces of the dice symbolize the week days.
The project aims to turn textile leftovers into something with an artistic value and a practical function. Given the leftover amount of textiles that the artist uses to design clothes, and in order to reuse the material, the artist has decided to make artworks out of textile leftovers. This idea can be implemented in textile factories to provide work opportunities for young people. The targeted audiences are business men who seek to create job opportunities for youth and factory owners who can take advantage of this as a way of disposing of the huge amount of textiles leftovers. Besides, art students can benefit from this project as it is considered to be an educational channel for them, both visual and virtual. Samia Talaat Born in the early fifties in the Shoubra neighborhood, Samia Talaat started developing her talent at a young age during her school studies and then enriched it by working hard in the field of fashion design and decoration. The idea of producing artworks came from the huge amount of leftovers of the textiles she uses to design. Since her participation in the From Rags to Riches project, the artists has wanted to exhibit her works in other spaces and to take part in new workshops that help the importance of the textile emerge in the realization of new artworks. |
